Biography
(1928-1994)
Studied at Delhi Polytechnic, 1956 and Academy of Fine Arts. Warsaw, 1958; Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship, 1968-70; Visiting prof. Jamia Millia University; Nehru Scholarship, 1981-90; Participation - Tokyo Biennale, 1956; Ist International Triennale, New Delhi 1968; Ist and IInd Bharat Bhavan Biennale - 1986, 88; Festival of India, Japan, 1988; Founder Diretor, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, 1981-90; Works exhibited, Kumar Gallery show - Modern Indian Painitings - One Hundred Years, 1996; Spirit Set Free 2005, Celebration Kumar Gallery 2016.
"The Significance of the Traditional Numen in Contemporary Art", a project that he worked on, won him the Nehru Fellowship. He served as a member of the International Jury at the Sao Paolo Biennale and was also a trustee at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. In 1981, he set up the art museum "Roopanker" at the Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal. He served as the director of the institute till 1990.
