About
World War II had triggered a new perception among artists across the globe. In this background, India was no exception, particularly following Independence. However, unlike in the West, neither was there much of a support system available to artists in india, nor did private galleries exist to promote potential artists. Thus, Kumar Gallery was launched in October 1955. The pioneering work by the gallery was lauded by art critics of the time and over the years the Kumar Gallery has been successful in its endavour as many of the artists promoted by the gallery are eminently known today.
Among the early abstractionsts introduced and projected by Kumar Gallery were Gaitonde, Biren De, Ram Kumar, and G.R. Santosh. Sohan Qadri joined in 1963. He has remained true to his direction, as he is ever evolving and further revealing his spirit/soul in his work. Throughout his oeuvres, Qadri reflects an intense personal journey, enhanced and inspired by the depths of his own painterly inner realm.
In the past there have been numerous one man shows of Qadri's selected paintings at the Kumar Gallery This collection has been carefully curated by Sunit Kumar Jain from Qadri's works spanning over a decade.
