Biography
(1932 - 2009)
Born at Tiruvannamalai in Tamilnadu, studied at College of Arts and Crafts, Madras. Joined the College of Faculty as a teacher in 1958 and was its Principal during 1985-1990. Participated in State and National art exhibitions and Commonwealth art exhibition in London. Various awards for his works since 1953 and National Award in 1957 for his paintings. "Through the Forest", in the collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. Tamilnadu State Lalit Kala Akademi Award 1982 and a Kalai Cheminal Award 1987. Executed portraits for the Parliament House, New Delhi in 1962 and Murals for the Madras State Museum. In 1991 his Retrospective was held at Delhi by C.M.C. Government of India. In 1996 he was conferred Kala Shiromani (Honoured Distinguished Artist) by Tamilnadu Government. His works were first exhibited at the Kumar Gallery in 1957.
